Destiny of a Spy (1969) Universal

60's made for TV film that stars Lorne Greene as a spy sent out on a dangerous mission by Anthony Quayle. This is not a very good film. There are some unintentionally funny parts, and bad freeze frame stop action. The plot is muddled, and technically goes no where. There is one scene where Greene removes his shirt and tie, then puts it back on crooked. He leaves with a crooked tie, and in the next shot he is neat and tidy. I guess this was overlooked in the cutting room. The film also stars James Donald, Rachel Roberts and Harry Andrews. **

Cancel my Reservation (1972) Columbia Rated G

This film can be used to put insomniacs to sleep. Terrible unfunny film that stars Bob Hope as a run down TV personality, and Eva Marie Saint as his wife. He goes to Arizona for vacation and gets involved in a dopey murder conspiracy. He meets a silly sherif (Kenan Wynn) and a tough town bad guy (Forest Tucker). Ralph Bellamy, Ann Archer, Henry Darrow, and Chief Dan George are also in the cast. There are also various cameos by celebrity personalities. See this one only if you are a die hard Bob Hope fan. * star

Frost/Nixon (2009) Universal

This is a great entertaining film. Michael Sheean is very funny as David Frost. The film chronicles how Frost's 1977 interviews with Nixon thrust him to fame. No one in the TV world wanted to give David Frost any money to produce the interviews, he could not even get good advertisment endorsements. He used his own money to finance the near 2.5 million dollar interview. These were sold to syndication and made David Frost a legend. Frank Langella was great as Richard Nixon, he was funny and touching at times. A great overall production. A must see. ****

The Pyx 1973 Rated R

The Pyx is a Canadian crime horror drama film that stars Christopher Plummer, and Karen Black. Karen Black plays a drug addicted hooker that winds up dead. Christopher Plummer is the detective trying to solve the murder. His investigation leads him into a world of a strange bizzare cult with weird intentions. This film is sort of dated, but it is a good time passer. Much of the acting is bad, and the production is very cheap. **1/2 stars

WIKI

Wiki's are the best. The PALS wikki is good, I use it for cataloging stuff, and to read about millenium problems. My favorite wiki is wikipedia, although a librarian would have to be careful using it or even someone doing a school report because sometimes the material posted is false. I use wikipedia for quick answers about some things like how many RCA recording stars are there past and present?, and is Eugene Ormandy still alive? and for information on Hanibal Hamlin, Hanibal lecter, Hanibal Smith and the Hanibal 8.

MORE ABOUT RSS FEEDS

The feeds will continue to move libraries into the future. The world is at our finger tips, we can find out about books long before they are published, films long before they are made, and local news. This is great technology. A++++++++++++++

PS - I saw ANDY WILLIAMS at BURGER KING in Farmingville. Poor guy he has not had a hit song in 40 years.

RSS feeds

One can age quite frequently playing with the RSS feeds. The amount of material on IGoogle can keep a person on line for 6 months. I like Mastics staff feeds, especially publishers weekley and librarian journal. The local and public feeds are also cool. i have added some cool movie feeds to my google reader page. This is another addicting guilty pleasure of the 21st century.

PS "Far From the Madding Crowd" 1967 Peter Finch Julie Christie Alan bates and Terrance Stamp. OUT ON DVD MAYBE MMSH WILL ORDER A COPY OF THIS CLASSIC.

Suffolk Wave

Suffolk wave is very cool, they have the movie Bartlby with the great paul scofield. The quality is not bad for a 1970 film. I also saw a vulgar funny Howie mandel concert from 1986, he must have snorted lots of cocaine before this show. The music can definetly be improved, hopefully the system can add classic rock to the line up, and maybe they can add some cool classic TV shows. There a many shows in public domain, like One Step Beyond and Loretta Young, SO SYSTEM DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND SEEK THESE OUT. If you need help contact TONY BALOZA, HE IS THE BOSS OF FILM TELEVISION AND MUSIC.

WHA-KOO - FABULOUS DANCER 1978 ABC RECORDS

This LP is totally exstinct. There are some LP's 8-tracks reel to reel and casettes of this album on ebay, but no CD, or downloads. Someone must of had a VCR in 1978, probably a beta or U-matic, maybe a VHS, and taped this video from Wolf man Jacks Midnight Special, circa 1973-80.

ZOO GANG - 1974 ITC TV
This show was based on Paul Gallico's novel of the same title, it had a great cast and a great theme by Paul McCartney and Wings. Unfortunatly it only lasted 6 episodes and was cancelled. It cost LORD LEW GRADE too much money to produce.

The Traveling Executioner - 1970 Metro Goldwyn Mayer. Definetly Rated R

This is a sick funny crazy comedy with Stacey Keach playing a guy named Jonas Candide, a traveling executioner, who drives around to prisions circa 1920 carrying a big electric chair in the back of his van, frying the bad guys one by one. He has a strange dilema, he has to execute a woman given the death penalty for murder. Jonas brings her flowers and tells her "I ain't never fried no woman before". this is a classic 1970's campy favorite.

As you can see I could be on You Tube all day pulling these classics to demonstrate for you.

Library Thing

I have had a library thing account long before the county started using tag clouds. I try to find the most bizzare obscure material that hardly anyone has ever known about. I sometimes am suprised to see that there are some people in the world that have actually read these crazy books. This is also a good way to converse with people that have a common literary interest.

The Night they Raided Minsky's (1968) United Artists

NOTE: MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
This is truly a classic film. Minsky's is the true story about how the striptease was first invented. The film is based on the book by Billy Minsky from 1960. The film is set in the lower east side of New York 1925 at Minsky's Burlesque. The star is Raymond Payne (Jason Robards), and his sidekick is played by the comedian Norman Wisdom. They find out that Minsky (Elliot Gould) is going to loose the theatre is the lease is not renewed. No one will renew the lease, not Minsky's father (Joseph Wiseman), or a Mobster played by Forest Tucker. The theatre is also having trouble with the head of the ethics committee, played by Denholm Elliot. How do they save the show? Enter a pure Amish girl named Rachel (Britt Ekland). Her goal is to dance stories from the bible, in a ballet style. The guys get an idea to build her up as the great stripper from Paris who drove all the men in France wild. Unfortunately Rachel catches on to there scheme to embarrass the head of the ethics committee, and to belittle her. She decides to go almost full Monty, but what she reveals is enough to get minsky's raided by the police.
This film is funny, smart, and full of burlesque songs and humor. It was also Burt Lahr's last film. *****

More Dead than Alive (1968) United Artists

This is possibly one of the most underrated western films of all time. Clint Walker plays Cain, a man who has just recently been released from prison after 20 years. Cain was formelly known as Killer Cain, the most ruthless villian of all time. Cain decides to change his ways, settle down, get married, and live a happy quiet life; until he meets Dan Ruffalo played brilliantly by Vincent Price. Rufallo runs a circus wild west shooting show, and he wants cain to be the main attraction. This gesture completely pisses off Billy (Paul Hampton) his current shooting main attraction. Billy and Cain clash, as well as other people from Cain's past that are out to get him. *****

College (2008) MGM

College is a modern 21 st century freshman, initiation, drink, party, sex film. There have been better fraternity films like "Revenge of the Nerds," and "Animal House," and of course the great "Old School," This film plainly stinks. The gags fall as flat as the beer. The girls are quite attractive, but this is not enough to hold a complete 95 minute film. The film dons a complete no star cast, if you consider the American Idol guy Kevin Kovarics a star, and mini me from "Austin Powers," a star. The ending was just predictable, as is the entire film. Take a pass on this one and watch "Old School," instead. 1/2*

delicious.com

VideoETA - The best source for DVD release dates, had many bookmarks on Delicious. i like this bookmark because it tells viewers about new and upcoming DVD releases. The Tag Clouds also lead viewers to other links that may be of interest or use. This is an easy way to make bookmarks that can be accessed anywhere, but it is also a great research tool. One example would be if a person was looking for an obscure film, and they noticed a tag cloud bookmark leading them to a link called something like "the world of obscure cinema," they may be able to find more material on the subject, or even see a film that hardly anyone else has seen. I think the tag clouds in the library OPAC are excellent, they are quite useful. i have a Library Thing account, and I have tagged many books for future reading, as well as personal favorites for recommendation.

Iron Man (2008) Paramount

Iron Man is a great technical achievement of a film. Robert Downey Jr. is good as the arms dealer, turned superhero. Jeff Bridges is also very good as his evil boss. This film is reccomed for those who like comic book superheros, and entertaing action films.

Road Trip (2000) Dreamworks

Roadtrip is a film that I had not seen in many years. I forgot how zany this film actually is. Tom Green is hysterical as the guy who has been in college for 10 years. Andy Dick has a very funny cameo as the hotel desk clerk. Another great scene is the slobby waiter in the resturant spitting and farting on the food. The crazy guy on the bus with the foot fetish is the film's director Todd Philips. This is one of the better college sex and beer films of recent years. ****

Zack and Miri (2008) Columbia

This a very funny comedy film by Kevin Smith. The film never falls flat on laughs, and it pays off at the end. Jason Mews is laugh out loud funny as the crazy porn actor. It would appear that Seth Rogan has been on a comedic role since "Superbad, and Knocked up." The plot is quite simple, a guy and girl who are roommates, and know each other for years, have fallen on hard times. Circumstances lead them to believe that making a porno will make them a fortune. Absolute hilarity soon breaks out. ****
